Planned Parenthood Innovation

In 2021, I led the launch of a new Planned Parenthood Innovation program, which creates new strategies to deliver on the organization’s vision. We formed teams and partner coalitions to create new solutions to problems, drove culture change through innovation training, and incubated concepts to de-risk and optimize impact.

Our portfolio included new digital health tools, a startup accelerator and venture fund, expanded community organizing tactics, climate resiliency and sustainability, and incubation of AI and other emerging tech.

Planned Parenthood Chat

Planned Parenthood’s Chat/Text program connects digital users with live educators who answer sex ed questions using an evidence-based intervention. The program is impactful, but tough to scale beyond 15k-20k users per month. So in 2018, my team co-designed with teen chat users and launched Roo, our sex ed chatbot, which has scaled aspects of the live chat experience to nearly 7 million users. Live and AI chat now share an integrated user experience, with live chat available in English and Spanish.

Abortion Service Locator

PlannedParenthood.org serves 12.5 million users per month and drives 40% of appointments to our health centers. As the organization began preparing for new abortion restrictions, my team researched how to streamline abortion access options for our digital users. In 2019, we launched the Abortion Service Locator tool, which draws on user-provided personal health data, legislative content from the Guttmacher Institute, and a partnership with abortionfinder.org to ensure every abortion seeker can easily find clear, personalized abortion access information. The Abortion Service Locator is available in English and Spanish.

LinkNYC

During my time with Control Group (now Intersection), the company won an RFP to replace pay phones across New York City with internet-enabled points of service. As product owner for LinkNYC, I lead a team of 50+ people across a consortium of five companies through digital user experience development, industrial design, and installation. To coalesce the LinkNYC roadmap and feature set, I centered user research with underinvested communities in the city and worked closely with corporate stakeholders, citizen representatives, advertising sponsors, and city government.

Signature Theatre

In 2012, Signature Theatre was undergoing a rebrand and moving into a new space designed by Frank Gehry. My team at POP was selected to design and install immersive environmental design throughout the Signature lobby. Working closely with the Signature and architectural teams, our team designed indoor and outdoor digital signage, two-story murals, and a wall of interactive touchscreens to capture patrons’ responses to performances. In addition to leading POP’s cross-functional design and engineering team, I collaborated across hardware providers and the architectural team to bring the environment together.
